Songfacts®:

  • This disco parody of UK broadcaster Alan Whicker used the tune of Tom Browne's "Funkin For Jamaica." It was the brainchild of library music composer Graham de Wilde, who wrote the original theme to Whicker's World. He set up a studio group to record the song, which also contained engineer, and producer Adrian Sear. The song not only reached the UK Top 20, but it also entered the US soul charts.
  • Asked by Brit-funk Heaven if Alan Whicker ever heard the single, Searle replied: "As fate would have it coincidentally Graham and I were working on his TV program Whicker's World 'Pavarotti' and 'Miss World in Sun City' in 81- 82. He took our parody very well. He was a genuinely a charming man. Very intelligent and mannered."

  • Aubrey Claridge from NormandieHad this on 45 vinyl back in the day - Love it! Hear it on Spotify now... Request it on Greatest Hits Radio?
  • Leesa Sloggett from NswI have searched for this song since it was played on double J, on my favourite DJ'S,
Tim Richie's late shift well before the internet.
I was in my early 20's then. Now past the time when memories fade and wisdom highlights are in my hair. The Wicker Rap is real and not just another song in my imagination and the Eastern Freeze was not just another cold Saturday night in Sydney.
