Songfacts®:

  • Singer Faris Baldwin coos on this seven-minute number about seeing the future whilst guitarist Joshua Hayward washes the tune with plenty of reverb. The track was central to the recording of Luminous. Badwan explained to The Sun: "There's always one song that makes everyone think the band is moving in a direction we are all excited about, and 'I See You' was that song. It was the most important song for making the rest of the record."
  • Bassist Rhys Webb told NME: "When we were writing, this track made us realize we were going in the right direction. It started to shape the final picture."
  • This song was played at the Labour Party's 2014 conference as members waited for their leader Ed Miliband to get up on stage. The Horrors' keyboardist Tom Cowan responded to the use of their song by tweeting: "F--k's sake, leave it out Ed. Keep your outdated political ideologies away from us. Our colour isn't red, it isn't blue, it's black".

Venues used for party conferences are generally covered by blanket licenses, which mean that they can play whatever music they like, without needing to gain specific permission.
