Songfacts®:

  • The JaneDear Girls comprise Alpine, Utah native Susie Brown and Danelle Leverett, who hails from Amarillo in Texas. The pair met at a concert in Nashville when songwriter Kris Bergsnes suggested to Danelle that she watch Susie perform. Soon afterwards they began writing songs together and the minute they finished their first collaboration, the two performers knew they were a duo. They chose to name themselves The JaneDear Girls because it was "feminine and all-American."
  • Between the two of them, Susie and Danelle play a total of eight instruments: Accordion, Acoustic guitar, Bass, Electric guitar, Fiddle, Gango, Harp and Mandolin.
  • The girls penned every song on their self-titled debut album, for which this up-tempo number is the lead single. "We try to put a lot of ourselves, who we are and our personalities into our music," said Susie. "We like to have fun with our songs and we wanted to give our fans something they can relate to as well."
  • After The JaneDear Girls signed with Reprise Records' Nashville division, John Rich (of Big & Rich) signed on as their record producer, and began mentoring the pair as well. He produced their entire debut album.
  • Susie told the story of the song in publicity materials: "I have a vintage electric Mandocaster which is essentially a solid body electric mandolin that I found in a little guitar shop in Salt Lake City, Utah," she said, "and I bought an amp, plugged it in at a co-writing session and 'Wildflower' popped out. I had a wildflower in my hair that day, and that's where we got the title."
