Songfacts®:

  • The Killers have released annual Christmas tunes as part of their work with the Product Red AIDS awareness charity campaign since 2006. This was their seventh consecutive festive song, which was released on December 4, 2012.
  • The track features additional vocals by Ryan Pardey. The Halloween Town frontman has been a road fixture with The Killers since 2004 and is known to die-hard fans of the band as The Captain.
  • The song is a festive reworking of a demo from early writing sessions for their Battle Born album. Speaking to NME, drummer Ronnie Vannucci explained: "It was an idea we had and a demo we recorded when we working on Battle Born and it was so good... See what we do is we tend to make all these songs and then put them in a locker and find them way too late. This song was basically started a while back and we just finished it and changed it into more of a Christmas song."
  • This was mixed by English producer Alan Moulder during the band's late fall 2012 UK arena tour. Moulder also mixed The Killers' Battle Born album.
  • The song's music video was half shot in the UK and half in their native Las Vegas. Ryan Pardey plays the bad Santa who is on the hunt for Brandon Flowers and his bandmates. "It's a bit like [2007 Christmas track] 'Don't Shoot Me Santa', where Santa comes back with a vengeance - it's that vibe," explained Vannucci to NME of the clip's concept.
