Songfacts®:

  • This insistent mariachi groover was released as an advance single from Everything You've Come To Expect. It was the first new Last Shadow Puppets song to be heard in eight years.
  • The song was started by Alex Turner playing the bass line. Miles Kane recalled to Interview magazine: "When he had that, I started doing some wailing over the top, and then we homed in on those words."
  • The original take of that song was about 40-minutes long. Producer James Ford then edited it down to its three-minute length. Kane said: "It was really about the editing with that one. I really sort of let fly on that. One day we would like to release that 40-minute version. It's such an art form and a relief to really let go and do something like that. It's quite astonishing, really, when you hear it. James helped us edit it down to make it a pop song with, like, a punky edge."
  • The lyrics are mainly comprised of seemingly unrelated phrases screamed out by Kane.

    Deep trouble
    Red lollipop
    Pale faces
    Oh right
    Deliciou
    s

Turner explained to Consequence of Sound why the fact that they don't make much sense, isn't really the point. "I think, not always, but sometimes it's good to just have the lyrics facilitate a melody," he mused. "Like, that's harder to do, I think, than writing the sort of storytelling stuff sometimes - getting the f---in' 'I Am The Walrus' s--t right."
  • One of the phrases is "C'est sur le bout de ma langue," which is French for "It's on the tip of my tongue."
