Songfacts®:

  • This is the only song by the Marshall Tucker Band with bassist and band leader Tommy Caldwell singing lead vocals. He also wrote the song, which is about his wife Melody Ann Caldwell. Tragically, Tommy died in the Spring of 1980 due to injuries suffered in a Jeep accident - one that was not his fault. It also signaled the end of the Marshall Tucker Band that fans grew to love. >>>

  • Blind Blake from MilwaukeeR.I.P. Tommy. The Marshall Tucker Band was never the same without you
  • Double T Taylor from Spartanburg What a beautiful song by a legendary musician who never got the credit he deserved & Spartanburg should have named a downtown street after him instead of people who are not from Spartanburg, Spartanburg should pay respect to The Marshall Tucker Band for putting them on the map
