Songfacts®:

  • The Ready Set is the alias of Indiana-born drummer, singer, songwriter and keyboardist Jordan Witzigreuter. In November 2009, Witzigreuter signed with Pete Wentz's Decaydance Records in connection with Sire Records, two sub–labels of Warner Bros. Records. He released his first full–length studio album, I'm Alive, I'm Dreaming on June 15, 2010 and this is its lead single.
  • Witzigreuter told the story of this song in an interview with myYearbook: "I wrote a first version of that song about a year ago. It used to be called 'Sign of Relief' and it was lyrically way different. It had the same chorus; it had the same melodies and structure. At the time that I wrote it, I just wrote words that sounded cool together. It didn't make too much sense. Then I came back and rewrote the song. I rewrote all the lyrics and tried to make it a little bit more cohesive. Then I went to go work on the song with J.R. Rotem and that drove the whole thing home to make it more hip-hop-ish and straight pop, which is kind of what I wanted to do anyways."
  • Witzigreuter discussed the music video's zombie concept with myYearbook: "I talked to the director, Isaac Ravishankara, about it early on. He said, 'Hey, I have this thing I've been working on. It's like these little LED laser light things that I made.' I said, 'Oh that's cool, we should use that for something.'
I knew when I first started talking about a video that I wanted it to be dark. I wanted it to be very offset from the bright peppiness of the song. I wanted it to be weird and bizarre. I think our ideas together drove that theme home and made it out of control and ridiculous."
