Songfacts®:

  • In this song, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus warn of a "new world disorder" that is taking hold in plain sight. "It's about world control and leaders wanting to rule with money or power as opposed to rule by what is good for the people," lead singer Ronnie Winter told The Rock Pit. "It's not a specific country or anything, it's totally made up from a story or idea that I had."
  • "The Awakening" is the title track to The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus' 2018 album, their first since 4 in 2014. It's a concept album with religious overtones, telling the story of a man going through struggles during a turbulent time. On the next track, "Saul To Paul," he embraces God.

Ronnie Winter has always been outspoken about his faith and the band had a Christian following from the jump, starting with their first single, "Face Down," which went to #1 on the Christian Rock chart. The album The Awakening was targeted more to that audience than their earlier work.
  • Ronnie Winter produced this song with his wife, Angela, whom he met at a recording studio. "I saw her working a Pro Tools board and I couldn't believe it," he told Metal Roos. "I had never seen a girl that looks like her that could do what I could do, in producing music. So, I figure all I have to do is convince her to like me, which wasn't that hard to do and the rest is history."
