• This is an update by Late Night With Jimmy Fallon house band The Roots of the track "Dear God (Sincerely M.O.F.). The original song was recorded by side project Monsters of Folk on their 2009 self titled debut album and the quartet also appear on this remake. The two groups initially performed "Dear God," together when Monsters of Folk members Jim James, Conor Oberst, M. Ward and Mike Mogis stopped by for a Fallon performance.
• Like the original version, the song is a prayer asking God the question why he allows so much suffering. On this remake, Jim James spits bluntly: "Why is the world so ugly when you made it in your image?"
• Drummer Questlove explained the song's meaning to NPR in 2010: "I won't say it's questioning God. I don't want to say that, you know, it's like an existentialist song or even an atheist song like, 'Do you even exist?' But, I mean, it's so hard sometimes to do right and to believe that you exist when all these things are happening in the world."
