Songfacts®:

  • The Snuts are a four-piece Scottish band who first met at school in Whitburn, West Lothian. They recorded "Somebody Loves You" for their debut album, W.L.
  • Frontman Jack Cochrane wrote this song during the COVID pandemic. The singer told The Sun newspaper he moved to Glasgow on Day One of the lockdown and spent his time cycling around the city on his own. All over Glasgow there was graffiti of a mother and baby which said, "Somebody loves you." Cochrane was fascinated by "how such a small sentiment could mean so much to someone," so he went home and wrote the song.
  • The Snuts released "Somebody Loves You" on February 4, 2021 in support of the Scottish Refugee Council, with the band donating the budget for the music video to the charity. Cochrane told The Sun: "We love the work they do. Everything about their charity and message is exactly what the song is about - no matter what, Somebody Loves You."
  • The album title W.L. stands for Whitburn Loopy - a nickname for the young people where The Snuts grew up.
  • W.L. debuted at #1 on the UK albums chart, making The Snuts the first Scottish band to do so since The View did with their 2007 album Hats Off To The Buskers.
