Songfacts®:

  • The first single to released from Combat Sports, this was debuted on Annie Mac's BBC Radio 1 show on January 3, 2018. "It was us falling back in love with rock 'n' roll and the record is an ode to that really," singer Justin Young told the DJ.
  • The video was filmed in Sardinia and finds the band experiencing a night out turning bad.

The Vaccines said: "The song is really simple, confident and fun and we wanted our role in the video to reflect that. but we also wanted the video to represent these vicious cycles that we often get ourselves into but have no control over - they can feel confusing, isolating and violent. and we liked the idea of juxtaposing that energy and emotion with beautiful exteriors and a warm environment. I think its easy to forget sometimes that bad things can happen in beautiful places."
  • The Combat Sports album title came about after guitarist Freddie Cowan and vocalist Justin Young had a big fight in the studio. Cowan explained to HMV.com:

"It's a nod to internal battles, how you manage relationships. We'd lost Pete (Robertson, drums), that threw everything into turmoil, we didn't know what the future was if the band going to survive. But we stuck it out and turned the corner. To me, it's an album about resilience, conquering what life throws at you."
