Songfacts®:

  • This song is about Jimmy The Mod, Quadrophenia's main character. He has basically hit rock bottom, dragged down by drugs, drink, and apathy. He's been abandoned by everything and is having a mental breakdown. The song Includes John Entwistle's theme, "Is it me?" played without a guitar. >>

  • Quadrophonic recording was supposed to be the next big thing, akin to the leap from mono to stereo. The Who built a special studio to record Quadrophenia in quadrophonic sound, but they ended up abandoning the quad mix because it was too impractical.

  • Guy from Benson, NcLove this tune. I think Quadrophenia gets overlooked as a complete recording. The whole 4 separate personalities based on The Who members fell short, but it's such a solid album.
  • Wayne from Salem, VaA Great song from a great album by a great band,THE WHO! Quadrophenia is my personal all-time favorite Who album. And this song is a rocker like mostly all of The Who's songs. This is the first song on side-4 of the original "Quadrophenia" album.----"Dr. Jimmy and Mr.Jim.When I'm pilled you don't notice him. He only comes out when I drink my gin."
  • Lester from New York City, NyThis song sets the real-life scenario of so many 'regular guys' that sren't happy with their regular selves, and like to become a more 'emboldened' thru drugs and alcohol.
  • Chloe from Seattle, WaReally? No love? This is my favorite!
