Songfacts®:

  • This is one of five previously unreleased tracks included on the deluxe version of Tangled Up. Thomas Rhett penned it with his father Rhett Akins about his wife Lauren, right after they wed in 2012.

"'Star of the Show' is one of those songs that I have lived with for a while and kept coming up as a song we needed to record and get to the fans," said Rhett. "I wrote it with my dad right after I got married, and it was the first song I ever wrote about Lauren. It was a staple in our set before we had any hits and fans still request it to this day. The Deluxe allows us to thank our fans for an incredible year by putting out a few new songs like this one."
  • Thomas Rhett has known Lauren Greggory since first grade. They married on October 12, 2012 and she has since been a muse for several of his songs including "Die a Happy Man." Lauren has also featured in a number of her husband's videos such as the clip for "Vacation."
  • The TK McKamy-directed visual was shot in one single take and left completely unedited.

"This music video was unlike anything we've shot before, which is why I always love teaming up with TK," Rhett said. "He captured that feeling I get when [my wife] Lauren walks into a room, no matter where we are, and the spotlight completely turns to her. The song was sped up double-time to get to point A to point B, and there were a lot of moving parts we had to execute perfectly for the video to make sense. We literally got it in the last take of the shoot."
  • The song was inspired by the way that other guys look at Lauren when she and Rhett go out in public.

"I went to Puckett's Grocery out in Leiper's Fork, Tennessee, and I was doing a songwriter's round out there," Rhett recalled to Billboard magazine. "I remember walking through the bar, and Lauren was wearing like a T-shirt and jeans - nothing fancy or special - and I remember people looking at her, and me looking at her thinking, 'Why do you look so amazing and you don't do anything?' I want to say that the idea spurred from that."
