Songfacts®:

  • An early Thompson Twins track that became their biggest UK hit to that point, "We Are Detective" was written by group members Tom Bailey, Alannah Currie and Joe Leeway. Alannah Currie wrote most of the band's lyrics, and all three collaborated on the music. In 1991, Currie and Bailey got married. The had two children together before splitting up on the early '00s.
  • Running 3:05 seconds, this could be described as a novelty song, but The Thompson Twins - who were originally a seven-piece outfit - are named after two cartoon strip detectives from the French Tin Tin series.

The song was released on the Arista label in 1982, reaching #7 in the UK singles chart and #48 in Currie's native New Zealand. The B-side was "Lucky Day," but there was also a long version - i.e. 12-inch - and a version called "Somos Detectives" released in Peru! >>
