  • When Tiesto asked Charli XCX to jump on one of his tunes their busy touring schedules meant they did a lot of their co-writing on the fly.

"I feel like my preferred style of singing is something that's like a little more rhythmical that feels like it could be a part of the track anyway. So when Tiesto sent me this original idea where like the hot in it element was in there, it felt like very me," she told Apple Music.

Eventually, Charli got to lay down her ideas in a studio during a Houston, Texas, tour stop. "It was the first time that I sang it out loud and it just all fit together so well. And when I was going back to the venue, I just made the Uber driver drive around Houston and just play it on repeat. He really liked it and said he thought it would be big."
  • Over Tiesto's sleek club-pop production, Charli sings of getting over a breakup by looking hot on the dance floor. "If you wanna have a hot summer, then you need this song in your life, because it is literally an adrenaline rush and will make you feel cute and sexy and hot," Charli told Apple Music.

"It's such a good dance track because it's about being confident in yourself," Tiesto added to Apple Music. "Like, just because somebody breaks up with you doesn't mean you aren't good enough. This song is about saying, 'No, I'm a 10. You're missing out. And I'm gonna go out tonight, feel hot and forget about you.'"
  • This marks the first proper collaboration on disc between Tiësto and Charli XCX. The Dutch EDM producer did previously remix Charli's 2014 single "Break The Rules."
  • Tiësto had been dying to work with Charli for years, but they couldn't come up with the right song. That is until Charli turned up the heat after he sent her the "Hot In It" demo. "The original was just a sample, low male vocal and it just didn't sound as good," Tiesto said. "And then she re-sang everything and it sounds incredible."
  • Tiesto and Charli XCX co-wrote "Hot In It" with:

Swedish singer-songwriter Emma Bertilsson, who performs under the name of Kiddo.

The Goldfingers production duo, aka Linus Nordstrom and Frank Nobel. The two Swedes contributed towards several Little Mix tracks, including "Think About Us" and "Break Up Song," as well as Becky Hill's single "My Heart Goes (La Di Da)." Nordstrom also co-wrote every song on Swedish House Mafia's 2022 album Paradise Again.

Songwriter Timothy Lavelle Deal. He's co-penned songs for the likes of Gabrielle Aplin ("Waking Up Slow") and Zoe Wees ("Girls Like Us") under the name Hight.
