Songfacts®:

  • Although this sounds like, and is, a novelty song, it is first and foremost an historically accurate ballad written by Timothy P. Irvin who performs as Timothy P. Like the later "The Cluck Stops Here", it tells the story of Mike the headless chicken, but with some terrific humor. Why'd the chicken cross the road? To try to find its head!

The song, which was recorded by Timothy P. & Rural Route 3, includes a lengthy narrated passage, a guitar that sounds here and there distinctly like a chicken clucking, and even a bar or two of Chopin's Funeral March. It appears in the 2003 documentary Chick Flick: The Miracle Mike Story. >>>
