Elevator Rock

Album: Tommy Steele Stage Show (1956)

Songfacts®:

  • This Tommy Steele solo composition was the B-side of his first single, "Rock With The Caveman." Running to a shade under two minutes, like many of the songs produced by nascent British Rock 'n' Rollers at this time, it has a distinctly American feel about it, not least because in the UK, an elevator is generally referred to as a lift. >>>

  • Heath St John from Berry's GreenI've bought the late '50's 'Rock with Tommy Steele' sheet music booklet, and the mistake published in your version of the lyrics that should be corrected is in the words'...Going up son, oh, you little girl...' The correct word is not 'Girl', but 'Cur', ('...oh, you little CUR...'), to rhyme with 'Sir', in the first part of the line.
    I hope it's changed.
Thanks very much. [fixed, thank you - editor]
