Songfacts®:

  • Jimmy is a previously established character from Tones and I's debut single, "Johnny Run Away." That song was inspired by Tones and I's childhood friend, who was struggling to come out as gay to his disapproving father. When Johnny met Jimmy at the park, he thought he was "a cutie" but his father dissuaded him from pursuing him.

Now we get to hear Jimmy's story. It turns out he was a withdrawn kid with an absentee dad. Jimmy used to come over to Tones and I's place after school but was unable to open up about his problems at home. One day he ran away and she never saw him again. Said Tones and I to Apple Music:

"In life we pass many people by; we say hi at the grocery store, or when we're getting coffee. But whether they're just there for a second or you talk to them for an hour, everyone has their own s--t going on."
