Songfacts®:

  • "Fe!n" is a track recorded by Travis for his Utopia album. It features Playboi Carti, who is the main man on the mic, holding down the chorus and two verses, while Scott's got just one verse. Carti's drug-fueled rhymes seem at odds with Scott's Utopian vision, raising questions about how much of "Fe!n" was made for Carti's fanbase, the Vamps.
  • Carti also gives a number of shoutouts to the Homixide Gang - a hip-hop duo comprising Homixide Beno! and Homixide Meechie - who are signed to his record label, Opium.
  • Playboi Carti adopts a deeper voice than usual during his rhymes. This led to a misconception that it is Homixide Meechie rather than Carti.
  • Travis Scott's chorus comprises him repeating the word "fein," an alternate way of spelling "fiend." Scott openly consumes lean, a mixture of codeine cough syrup and soda, and the word "fiend" refers here to someone struggling with addiction. Playboi Carti directly references this on the last chorus with his "syrup" adlib.
  • Scott spits about how when the night arrives, he comes alive. The title connects to this too because fiends stay awake at night, as they sleep during the day because of the effect of the drugs.
  • Scott previewed a different version of "Fe!n" in his film Circus Maximus, which features alternative Carti verses and an additional verse from Sheck Wes. Sheck's verse was cut from the final album, and only his ad-libs ended up in the final version.
  • Travis Scott, Playboi Carti and Sheck Wes co-wrote "Fe!d" with Jahaan Sweet. Scott and Sweet also produced the track. Julliard-trained Jahaan Sweet's other credits include Eminem's "Lucky You," Post Malone's "Saint-Tropez" and Taylor Swift's "Lavender Haze." He contributed to nine out of the 19 tracks on Utopia.
  • Scott played the song 10 times in a row during a December 19, 2023 show at Brooklyn's Barclays Center. The energy the rapper was receiving from the audience took him to a place where he wanted to keep ramping things up further.

"Man, I have the best fans in the world," he told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show. "I go off the energy they give me. And they were wild that night. And so I just got even wilder."
  • Playboi Carti joined Travis Scott to perform "Fe!n" at the Grammy Awards in 2024. Utopia was nominated for Best Rap Album, but lost to Michael by Killer Mike.
