Songfacts®:

  • This song starts off with some bars in which Juice WRLD reflects on the dangerous cycle of partying and drug use. The intro is followed by rhymes from Travis Scott in which he proclaims that he doesn't want any bystanders at his concerts; instead he urges his fans to bring the rage.

    My ni--as gon' flame
    Bitch, I'm with gang

Sickamore, Scott's longtime A&R told Rolling Stone: "That's all Travis. He wanted the ultimate raging song. All he thought about that song was mosh pits. All the music we think about how it's going to perform live. You always gotta think about that. Is it still gonna be a movie live?"
  • The foul-mouthed hook is performed by Scott's young Cactus Jack Records signee Sheck Wes. It is an interpolation of Three 6 Mafia's 1995 track "Tear Da Club Up."
  • When Scott performed this at the Grammy Awards in 2019, he entered a cage as group of rowdies came out to provide atmosphere and catch him when he leaped from it.
  • Three 6 Mafia producer and rapper DJ Paul claimed Scott wasn't authorized to use any portion of Three 6 Mafia's "Tear Da Club Up." According to reports from TMZ and Pitchfork, he issued a copyright infringement lawsuit in April 2019, which alleged that "No Bystanders" contains a chant in which the cadence and sound is "virtually identical and strikingly similar" to the hook from the Memphis group's track.

Paul is reportedly seeking the profits from this song which he estimates to be $20 million.
