Songfacts®:

  • Travis lead guitarist Andy Dunlop penned this song after buying his kids a big Christmas present, only to watch them play with the box all day (something lots of kids do if given the choice). Vocalist Fran Healy told The Sun: "He thought 'Wow, we play in cardboard boxes as a child, we live in concrete boxes as adults and they put us in a box when we die…."

Healy added that the lyrical twist at the end of the song "makes me well up every time I hear it."
