Songfacts®:

  • This country anthem finds Tyler Farr nostalgically pining for traditional small-town values.

We were raised in the shadows of crosses and flags
When we pledge allegiance we take off our hats
    Here in our town
We say 'Yes ma'am' and 'No ma'am'
    We love, we don't hate
That world that's gone crazy, it don't have a place
Here in our town, here in our town
  • The song came from a period of taking stock and reflection after Farr had micro-laryngeal surgery to remove a polyp from his vocal chord.

"I had time to think, actually sit down and watch the news and see what is happening out there," he said. "I saw that the world today isn't the same one that I remember from my youth, back before I left my own home town, and it got me thinking. Man, there's a lot of anger, hate and straight up disrespect for others that seems to show no end. That doesn't sit well with me. Where did faith, hope and love go?"
  • Tyler Farr's hometown is Garden City in western Missouri whose population was 1,642 at the 2010 census.
