Songfacts®:

  • This remains one of the bigger hits for Uncle Kracker, the state name of Matthew Shafer, a native of suburban Detroit and a former DJ whose career was helped by the fact that he is a childhood friend of Kid Rock. The song is about somebody making the good life, only to find that it's so plastic and phony that it leaves him unfulfilled and alienated. The song seems to be aimed at Hollywood, and the video certainly portrays that. However, in contrast to other songs aimed at Hollywood, this one takes a cheerfully cynical look at that life, never taking it seriously enough to be affected very much by it. >>>
