Songfacts®:

  • Meg Remy, aka U.S. Girls, was brought up in Chicago but relocated to Toronto in 2010. This stark chant was originally released on her 2010 album Go Grey but reworked for Heavy Light.
  • The song's lyrics conjure images of cattle trading, car radio and passing scenery. "I grew up in a meat family, Remy explained to Q magazine. "Slaughterhouse vibes, meatpacking. I don't think I would ever say what the event is that red Ford radio is recounting, but that song has grown with me and I've grown as a human being. It includes the personal, it includes capitalism with using the word Ford - and it talks about stockyards which is a really interesting meeting ground of the personal and capitalism."
