Songfacts®:

  • This song features Vince Staples' hood narratives, as well as a hook by Future comprising lyrics sampled from his Honest track "Covered N Money." Staples told Artist Direct: "If you listen to the lyrics, the production, and what's said on the hook and you watch the video, it doesn't really add up and make sense. To me, that displays how certain things we do in this community do not make sense. You can't escape it. It is what it is because the song feels right. That relates to how it might feel right in the moment, but that doesn't mean it makes sense or actually adds up. That's what I was trying to display through that song in the best way possible without being too overbearing."
  • The song features unaccredited vocals from Staples' fellow Atrium label-mate Snoh Aalegra on the outro.
  • The video is a visual representation of the song's troubling narrative. "If you really listen to what's being said [on 'Señorita'], the lyrics are contradicting the beat, which is contradicting the video, and that's all to say that the situation doesn't make sense," Staples explained to MTV News. "The street stuff is stupid and pointless. It's out of necessity and not want. Nobody wants to do that kind of stuff - I don't care what anybody tells you."

"But when it starts, it's too late," he added. "You can't say 'I don't wanna play anymore.' That's not how it works. Because once blood is shed, [those actions are] for survival. And in this country we tend to ignore that part of it, so I try to use my music to display that in an accurate way."
  • The song is part of Staples' debut album, Summertime '06. The album title is a reference to the summer of 2006 when he turned 13 and faced "the beginning of the end of everything." The most popular song from the album is "Norf Norf," which has similar subject matter.
