  • "The Apple Orchard" by Bliss Carmen and Ivor Gurney is the third song in the song cycle Seven Sappho Songs for soprano and piano; the first is "Soft Was The Wind."

    According to Richard Carder in his notes to the pamphlet, there are three versions of the poem The Apple Orchard, the song performed here is based on Gurney's revision of May 1920. He says also it is the most lightweight of the seven. >>>
