Songfacts®:

  • Contemporary Rockabilly singer/songwriter Willy Moon grew up in Wellington, New Zealand, before moving to London at the age of 17. After releasing his first song, "I Wanna Be Your Man," on Myspace, Moon began to generate some interest and he subsequently signed a record deal with Island Records.
  • Moon came to many people's attention when this song was used in Apple's 'Bounce' iPod Shuffle and nano ad campaign. "I knew it was something that would, in a way, change my life," Moon told Billboard magazine of the Apple sync. "Somebody from Apple actually came over to London and spent a few days with me, sitting there and kind of just mapping everything out. I made that record at the beginning of last year, at home in my flat... so the thought of that going out to 40 or 50 countries around the world was validating in a different kind of way."

Previous hit songs aided by iPod commercials include Feist's "1234," the Ting Tings' "Shut Up and Let Me Go" and Grouplove's "Tongue Tied."
  • Regarding his sci-fi rock 'n' roll sound, Moon told Q magazine in late 2011: "In the '50s there was a real sense of optimism for the limitless possibilities of the future that doesn't exist any more. It's almost 2012 - we should be having holidays on the moon by now!"
  • Moon originally considered titling this song "Electric Boulevard."
  • The song borrows from W. Watts. Biggers' 1964 tune, "Theme From Underground," which was made famous when RZA flipped it in 1993 for "Wu-Tang Clan Ain't Nuthing Ta F--k Wit."
