Songfacts®:

  • This was the last of five singles from Wilson Phillips' debut album. It takes a more serious and introspective tone than the others, celebrating the spirit of the 1960s and lamenting the fact that those optimistic times faded to cynicism, but hoping that it will return. The song proved somewhat prophetic, as an interest in the music and culture of those times became widespread during the '90s. >>>

  • The ladies of Wilson Phillips must have learned some valuable lessons from their famous fathers: Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys and John Phillips of The Mamas & The Papas. Musicians often end up broke when they stop drawing crowds, but songwriters get a steady stream of publishing royalties. Wilson Phillips wrote this and five other songs on the album, which should keep the checks coming for a while. They also used a good producer: Glen Ballard, who later helmed albums for Alanis Morissette and Dave Matthews.
