Album: Number The Brave (1981)

Songfacts®:

  • This track has a fairly straightforward anti-nuclear message; following the departure of founder member, bass player and lead vocalist Martin Turner, axeman Andy Powell supplied the lead vocal with a little help from Claire Hamill, and although Turner is an excellent vocalist, this is a track which sounds better suited to Powell's voice. Powell co-wrote it with second lead Laurie Wisefield and drummer Steve Upton. It is the third track on the 1981 Number The Brave album. According to Martin Turner's online discography, it was released in March 1981 on the MCA label backed by "My Mind Is Made Up."
  • For most of the track, the guitar has a slightly tinny semi-acoustic sound which is much more in tune with the song's message than the band's usual twin lead. >>>
