Songfacts®:

  • This is the first single from Clefication, which was recorded by Wyclef Jean in a Stockholm-based studio with Avicii's manager, Ash Pournouri. "I was 'Gone in November' of 2013, in search of my next musical chapter," Wyclef told Billboard magazine. "So, with my acoustic guitar, I headed to Stockholm where once again I found my voice."
  • This song features Avicii. Wyclef and the Swedish EDM artist performed the track for the first time on August 24, 2014 in Ushuaia Ibiza, Spain.
  • Wyclef Jean and Avicii previously collaborated when they teamed up with Alexandre Pires and Carlos Santana for the 2014 World Cup closing anthem, "Dar Um Jeito (We Will Find A Way)."
  • Proceeds from sales of the song go to RED's world AIDS campaign.
  • This came out of a "bunch of music" that Avicii and Jean recorded for Clefication. "The genesis of what I do is based off songwriting," Jean explained to Billboard magazine. "I'm a songwriter first I love to be there with the guitar and piano."

"Someone who has the same hobby as me is Avicii.," he continued. "We got into the studio and just started to work on a bunch of music. 'Divine Sorrow' was one of the records recorded. The tone of it, the attitude, the emotion is… it's been a minute since you heard that [from] me."
