Songfacts®:

  • This song finds a heartbroken XXtentacion addressing his deteriorating relationship with a girl.

Mmm, baby, I don't understand this
    You're changing, I can't stand it
My heart can't take this damage
And the way I feel, can't stand it

On the face of it "Changes" is a heartbreaking breakup anthem. However, there is a questionable back story to the song. In early October 2016, XXXtentacion was arrested on charges of false imprisonment, witness tampering, and aggravated battery of his then girlfriend, a pregnant Geneva Ayala. Though X hasn't explicitly revealed who "Changes" is about, the rapper repeatedly referenced his relationship with Geneva on his previous album 17 and many of the rappers fans are of the opinion that this track's lyrics address his relationship with the abuse victim.
  • The bridge is sung by East Coast crooner PnB Rock, who is best known for his 2016 hit "Selfish."
