• During the bridge, Yungblud pours his heart out, saying he will never forget his romance with Halsey. He references the 2004 movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, which is set in a dystopian world where people can get their memories permanently erased.

  Halsey previously expressed her love for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind with the 2019 song "Clementine." The singer readily identifies with Kate Winslet's character Clementine Kruczynsk, a free spirit who exhibits traits of borderline personality disorder.
• Yungblud told Apple Music the song is about how he fell for Halsey and how she taught him about love. "I met someone and I fell in love and I realized I'd never been more wrong in my life," he said. "I learned so much - she was incredible and we were incredible together. But I didn't just want to write a song about falling in love or being heartbroken, because no one can prepare you for the pain of heartbreak. It's about falling in and out of love - with your arms open."
