Dangerous Days

Album: Taiga (2014)
Play Video

Songfacts®:

  • Directed by artist Tim Saccenti, the music video finds Zola Jesus (real name Nika Roza Danilova) dancing by the lake and amongst the trees in Washington's Hoh Rainforest attired in a flowing woollen cape. "The song is a pure emotional plea, a future primitive call to arms," Saccenti said. "To create a moment of light in these dark times was our hope. Eschewing a heavy narrative we let the images of the Earth, filmed in wide screen and mixed with a tense unnatural presence, wash over the viewer while Nika communicates her powerful message."
  • According to Vogue magazine, Danilova's wool cape was once worn by famed American performance artist Marina Abramovic.
  • Danilova told Spin magazine that escaping to the forest is something that she'd love to do. "I'd inherently feel better about myself as a human being if I was removed from humanity," she said. "There's a sense of freedom in living out in the uninhabited world. I definitely fantasize about that."
  • The album title also references Danilova's love of nature, Taiga being the Russian name for the boreal forest.
