Album: Abide With Me (1996)

  • And did those feet, in ancient times, walk upon Englands mountains green?
And was the Holy Lamb of God, on Englands pleasant pastures seen?
And did the Continience Devine, shine forth among these clouded hills?
And was Jeruselem builded here, among these dark, satanic mills?

Bring me my bow, of burning gold. Bring me my arrows of desire.
Bring me my spear, O clouds unfold. Brind me my chariot of fire.
I will not cease, from mental fight. Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand.
Til we have built Jerusalem in Englands green and pleasant land. Lyrics licensed and provided by LyricFind

  • Michael from Alivemike70@gmail.comIn the early 80's having seen the film "Chariots of Fire"; it occurred to me, as "Jerusalem" was being sung, that the music of the song and the opening music of the movie theme were the SAME(!), only played at different speeds. I took my "Chariots of Fire" 33 RPM album and played it at 45 RPM; and sure enough it was the same music. Try it if you don't believe it! I have told others about this, but they just blink and stumble away confused. I would love to hear from anyone who tries this experiment.
  • Carlos from São Paulo, BrazilFor me, before the movie Chariots of Fire and the royal british events telecast to all the world, Jerusalen was an exclusive song by ELP - still a killer version as Bob from Southfield said. Carlos. SãoPaulo / Brazil.
  • Bob from Southfield, MiEmerson, Lake and Palmer do a killer version of this to open the album "Brain Salad Surgery".
  • Mike from Rochester, NyThe lyric "Bring me my chariot of fire" inspired the title of the film Chariots of Fire. A church congregation sings "Jerusalem" at the close of the film
