  • You take a deep breath
And you walk through the doors
It's the morning of your very first day
You say hi to your friends you ain't seen in awhile
Try and stay out of everybody's way

    It's your freshman year
And you're gonna be here for the next four years
    In this town
Hoping one of those senior boys
Will wink at you and say, "You know I haven't seen you around, before"

    'Cause when you're fifteen
Somebody tells you they love you
    You're gonna believe them
    And when you're fifteen

Feeling like there's nothing to figure out

    Count to ten
    Take it in
This is life before you know who you're gonna be
    At fifteen

You sit in class next to a red-head named Abigail
And soon enough you're best friends
    Laughing at the other girls
Who they think they're so cool
We'll be out of here as soon as we can

And then you're on your very first date
    And he's got a car
    And you're feeling like flying
    And you're mama's waiting up
And you're thinking he's the one
And you're dancing around the room when the night ends
    When the night ends

    'Cause when you're fifteen
Somebody tells you they love you
    You're gonna believe them
    And when you're fifteen

And your first kiss makes your head spin around

But in your life you'll do things
Greater than dating the boy on the football team
But I didn't know it at fifteen

    When all you wanted
    Was to be wanted
    Wish you could go back
And tell yourself what you know now

Back then I swore I was gonna marry him someday
But I realized some bigger dreams of mine
And Abigail gave everything she had
To a boy who changed his mind
    And we both cried

    'Cause when you're fifteen
Somebody tells you they love you
    You're gonna believe them
    And when you're fifteen

Don't forget to look before you fall

I've found time can heal most anything
And you just might find who you're supposed to be
I didn't know who I was supposed to be
    At fifteen

    La la la la la
    Your very first day
    Take a deep breath girl
And take a deep breath as you walk through the doors Writer/s: Taylor Swift

  • Erica from Texarkana This song came out the week before my 30th birthday and never in my life has a song hit me so hard & so strong. This song has to ability to make me weep every time I hear it to this day, and I am now 35. every lyric in this song captures the age of 15 (for me anyway) and the insecurities, the friendships, the awkwardness and the wonder of how you think your life will be. Taylor Swift is a very talented songwriter and I will be forever grateful for this song.
  • Haylee from Delta, OhI'm currently a freshman in high school and in an amazing relationship, even though it's long distance. Love don't know what distance is <3
  • Katy from Newport News, VaMy friend gave everything to a boy, and he shattered her heart after 2 years. We met in 8th grade, and were best friends instantly.
  • Hannnah from Manila, Philippinesi still remmeber when am 15 yrs old i fall n love to stranger ......his name ...is ken
  • Karen from Manchester, NhA timeless song; I graduated from high school almost 30 years ago (1982) and a good friend of mine "gave everything she had to a boy who changed his mind...and we both cried." I think of that friend every time I hear this song.
  • Ronny from London, United KingdomThis song really reminds me of my life. im not in with all the popular lot and to be honest i dont really care. i have an ace group of mates that get me though teenage life :L. I like the bit that says " you'll do greater things in life than date the boy on the football team. " that really shows me that boys arent everything and they alll tell you that they love you...do they mean it...do they ever? love this song.thanks Taylor youve helped <3 ALOT! :) X
  • Sarah from Toronto, OnI really like this one. I think it's a pretty accurate depiction of what life seems like when you're fifteen and high school is your world. You feel grown up, but you're not really. Everything that happens seems to matter so much and it's hard to see beyond the next four years. I appreciate that Taylor Swift offers the reminder that there is life beyond those years and there is so much more to learn about who you are and who you're supposed to be after you're fifteen.
I think the song points out that it's fine not to feel like you have it all together and not to worry about whether you're popular or not or whether you have a boyfriend/girlfriend or not because there is life beyond that high school door... And plenty of time
  • Joe from El Paso, TxBefore, I used to think that this was just some annoying song complaining about how hard it is to be 15... then I was listening to it in the car and started listening to the lyrics and I actually started crying! I felt so bad for poor Abigail... the line "She gave him everything she had" (or something like that) refers to her giving him her virginity... such a sad song... :'(
  • Alyssa from Airdrie, AbI LOVE this song! Every single line applies to me and has SO much meaning! Taylor you definatly hit the nail on the head when you said "You'll do things greater than dating the boy on the football team"
  • Sarah from St Paul , Mni think this song is really pretty nd i luv taylor swift
  • Tash from Tofino, BcUh, I wouldn't say Taylor Swift has some of the best lyrics. Her songs are very simplistic, not much thought really goes into making words rhyme. I don't see what all the hype is about her, oh well, in 2 years she will have disappeard like a fart in the wind.
  • Tricia from Rockville Centre, NyThis song, the more and more I hear it...I get the feeling yes she is narrating the story of her best friend Abgail and how Abgail goes out with a boy and he has a car...and how she thought they were going to be together forever....and how she winds up getting dumped while keeping a baby. I picture it a small town, two best friends explored innonence of HS and one succumbs to the realities of life. Sad...but very good song...and Taylor Swift is one talented class act!
  • Guy from Woodinville, WaA truly remarkable song. This 55-yr-old is impressed--got a lotta respect for Taylor.
  • Carly-nicole from Nsw, AustraliaBESTEST SONG:):):)
  • Anita from Citrus Heights, Cathis song is really cool. i can ttly relate.. (:
  • Emily from Around Chicago, IlIn the booklet that comes w/the CD, there are hidden messages in the lyrics. You take all the capital letters and put them in order to spell a phrase. Fifteen's message is: I CRIED WHILE RECORDING THIS.
