  • He hit me
And it felt like a kiss
    He hit me
    But it didn't hurt me

He couldn't stand to hear me say
That I'd been with someone new,
And when I told him I had been untrue

    He hit me
And it felt like a kiss
    He hit me
And I knew he loved me

If he didn't care for me
I could have never made him mad
    But he hit me,
    And I was glad

    Yes, he hit me
And it felt like a kiss
    He hit me
And I knew I loved him
And then he took me in his arms
With all the tenderness there is,
    And when he kissed me,
He made me his Lyrics licensed and provided by LyricFind

Barbara Alston, founder and lead singer of the Crystals on the hits "Uptown" (#13 in 1962) and "There's No Other (Like My Baby)" (#20 in 1962), died February 16th, 2018 after suffering complications from influenza at a hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was 74...
The Brooklyn quartet were an integral part of producer Phil Spector's 'Wall of Sound'-- though not integral enough to keep him from using Darlene Love & the Blossoms on subsequent "Crystals" records,"He's A Rebel" and "He's Sure The Boy I Love". La La Brooks then replaced Barbara as lead on later hits. After leaving the Crysals, Barbara became an actress, appearing on television in 'Kojak' and 'Hill Street Blues'...

  • Molly from Chicago, IlLittle Eva was actually Carole King and Gerry Goffin's babysitter!
  • Marcus from Columbus, OhI know that it was Little Eva who inspired the song, Gerry wrote the lyrics and Carole did the music. That was one song that Tina Turner didn't cover because Ike was all over her like Sarge on Beetle Bailey & sometimes Tina got the same treatment that Beetle got from Sarge. I know that song was banned & I heard it on an oldies show and didn't know it existed. One verison of the song was called "She Spanked Me" & it felt like a kiss where a kid got spanked by his mother for playing hookey from school. That is a classic song & dealt with battered women. I'm surprised That Rush Limbaugh hasn't used it for his updates on various subjects.

  • Billy from Albany, GaThis song was also covered by the Motels
  • Joshua from Twin Cities, MnThe Snopes urban legends site has an article about another daft Spector/Crystals recording called "The Screw" which wasn't even releaseable. Spector had had a falling-out with the co-owner of his record label, Lester Sill, and aftwrward went to great lengths to make Sill's life miserable, including recording "The Screw". (Sill eventually took the hint and sold his stake in the label.) The article mentions "He Hit Me" in passing, but does not suggest that it had anything to do with the Spector-Sill feud. Still, one can't help but wonder...
