Songfacts®:

  • 3 Of A Kind is a garage band whose members are Liana Caruana (aka Miz Tipzta), Nicholas Gallante (aka Devine MC) and Marc Portelli (aka Marky P). This was their only hit single, a follow up "Wink One Eye" was recorded but was never released.
  • Miz Tipzta wrote the lyrics in 1998 after watching the 1989 made-for-TV film Babycakes starring Ricki Lake. She says in 1000 UK #1 Hits, "The words are written about someone I knew, but generally it's based on the film's love story. Basically, the girl knows the man is 'The One' but he doesn't realize it."

She put it aside then came across it again in 2002 and sang the chorus to her friend Devine MC, who was a DJ on a London pirate station, Supreme FM. Devine was hooked and then had the idea to match Miz Tipzta's song to an instrumental track his friend Marky P had written. They recorded it and after other local pirate stations started playing it, it got picked up by clubs then national radio.
