Songfacts®:

  • This is a rare heartbreak song from ABBA. Written by their male members Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson, it reflect the hardships they both faced in going through divorce. The song is reminding the former love that although he (it's sung by the girls of ABBA and thus from a female perspective) may be doing OK, she is still struggling.
  • This was the first single released from ABBA's final studio album The Visitors. It gave the group their final top 20 chart placing in the UK. Had the charts been compiled at Christmas that year, "One Of Us" would almost certainly have taken the #1 spot. However, with no chart compiled that Christmas, the Human League's "Don't You Want Me" retained the top spot. The song only managed to peak at #107 on the US Billboard chart. >>>

  • David Harvey from AustraliaThe video is very interesting, as it shows Agnetha portraying a woman moving into what is presumably a new flat. If you watch closely during the segment where she puts her record-player and cabinet in place, you will see a vinyl copy of The Band's debut album "Music from Big Pink", but I'm not sure if it's an American pressing or not.
  • Paul Osman from Liverpoo,l EnglandThis would have been enhanced by giving it a slowr reggae rhythm It's almost but not quite there. Still a classic however
  • Alan Akb from Huddersfield England"One of us" was my all time favorite from Abba , although I liked them all and they never made a bad record , every track so different in their own particular way. The lyrics and melody on this track are so powerful even 39 years later. Great music like this is timeless and will live on and on .
  • Abba Forever from Jordan Incredible people singing their own tragedies
  • Dave from Cardiff, WalesThis was Abba's last major hit, and effectively their swansong... Although it only got to #107 in on the US Billboard chart, that may have been due to the fact that "One Of Us" was released in the US well over a year after it's European and UK release, and Abba had already disbanded by that time. Whatever else, this was one of the best songs they ever did.
  • Deb from Melbourne, AustraliaA lot of the late Abba songs were depressing, but also their best. I think it proves that trauma in people's lives (divorce, death, etc) breeds amazing creativity.
