Songfacts®:

  • This island-tinged song finds Bad Bunny and Jhay Cortez flirting with their love interests. They attempt to seduce these ladies by flaunting their luxurious lifestyles and buying them high-end fashion items.
  • The song title does not appear in the lyrics. It refers to the Dakati pub in the Puerto Rico city of San Juan, where many reggaeton stars come from.
  • This is the first time that Bad Bunny and his fellow Boriqua, Jhay Cortez, have worked together on an original song. The pair did previously collaborate on remixes for Cortez' "No Me Conoce" and Bad Bunny's "Cómo Se Siente."
  • Tainy produced this slow-burning reggaeton song with Bad Bunny, Cortez, and La Pacienci. Puerto Rican producer Tainy has five credits on Bad Bunny's 2020 album YHLQMDLG.
  • Colombian creative Stillz directed the aquatic video, which shows Bad Bunny and Jhay Cortez partying on a boat, performing in an isolated floating box, and piloting personal submarines. Stillz has worked on some of Bad Bunny's previous visuals, including "Yo Perreo Sola."
  • Unlike Bad Bunny's previous two songs with Jhay Cortez that were done by phone, the two artists were able to work on this one together in the studio. He told Billboard that "sharing ideas in person" was the key of the song's success.

"The creative process of this song was different than my previous works," Bad Bunny added. "I usually have a main idea for a song. For this one, though, Jhay composed the base, the initial rhythm and the main idea together with Mora. I then added to the evolution of the production, rhythm and lyrics with Tainy. It was a combined effort, which is unusual for me, but when one works as a team, great things come out."
  • "Dakati" was released as the lead single of El Último Tour del Mundo, a mainly introspective record penned by Bad Bunny during the COVID quarantine. This song came late in the process when the Puerto Rican artist realized the record was missing a party track.

"Jahycor [Jhay Cortez] and Mora already had the song written and prepared," he explained to Billboard. "I added my lyrics, my touch, over Jhay Cortez's rhythm. Then we sent it to Tainy so he could also put his touch, and everything was a very dynamic, very cool team effort. I really liked the way we worked."
  • El Ultimo Tour del Mundo debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 the week ending December 12, 2020, becoming the first all-Spanish-language album to top the all-genre chart.
