Songfacts®:

  • Bad Bunny had a massive 2022. The reggaetón star's album Un Verano Sin spent 13 non-consecutive weeks atop the Billboard 200, and Spotify named him the most-streamed artist on the platform worldwide for the third year in a row. Also, his World's Hottest Tour became the highest-grossing tour by a Latin artist in history. Bunny celebrated his successful year by dropping this standalone single as a gift for his fans on December 22, 2022.
  • Though released three days before Christmas, "Gato de Noche" is no festive ditty. Rather, Bad Bunny lives up to his name by portraying himself as the secret lover of a girl who's already taken. She spends her days with her official love, but late at night Bunny sneaks into her home for some naughtiness. The title translates into English as "cat of the night."
  • Puerto Rico rapper Ñengo Flow joins Bad Bunny on the track. He's also making nighttime rendezvous with the girl, and he explicitly describes their bedroom activities.
  • Ñengo Flow and Bad Bunny have a long history of collaborations:

In 2016, both artists featured on "Diles," along with Ozuna, Farruko, Arcangel and Maluma's track "Un Polvo."

In 2017, Bunny appeared on Ñengo's Real G 4 Life 3 tune "Hoy."

In 2020, Nengo contributed to two of Bunny's YHLQMDLG cuts, "Que Malo," and the hit single "Safaera."
  • Three producers created the moody reggaeton beat.

One half of the Florida production and songwriting duo The Mekanics, Michael "Foreign Teck" Hernandez's other credits include Bryson Tiller's "Exchange" and Young Thug's "Solid."

Miami beatmaker Samuel "Smash David" Jimenez has also worked with Big Sean ("Bounce Back "), Chris Brown ("Pills & Automobiles") and Khalid ("Location"). He previously collaborated with Bad Bunny on his 2021 single, "Yonaguni."

The production collective Bass Charity is best known for their collaborations with Tory Lanez. Their previous work with Bad Bunny includes "120" and "Efecto."
