Songfacts®:

  • This love song completes Beyoncé's emotional journey that she outlines throughout the Lemonade album. Throughout the record we heard her discovering, wrestling with and finally forgiving her husband's infidelity. Now reconciled, she wants Jay-Z by her side all night long.
  • The reggae-tinged ballad was produced by Diplo of Major Lazer. Diplo also co-produced the Lemonade track "Hold Up."
  • Diplo samples the horn section from Outkast's "Spottieottiedopaliscious." The same horns were previously sampled on Beyonce's "Flawless" remix with Nicki Minaj. Jill Scott ("The Real Thing"), J. Cole ("Who Dat") and Lil Wayne ("Right Above It") have all also borrowed from Outkast's tune.

Diplo recalled to TMZ how the sample nearly got overlooked. "Somebody added horns and I noticed they sounded like 'SpottieOttieDopaliscious' by Outkast and I told them," he said. "Then we had to give Outkast 25 per cent of the record, which sucks, but everybody got paid."
  • Beyoncé debuted the Lemonade album when she kicked off her Formation tour at Marlins Park, Miami on April 27, 2016. She told the audience that this is her favorite song from the record. Bey also silenced any cheating speculation when she dedicated her 2008 tune "Halo" to her "beautiful husband" Jay-Z, who attended the concert.
  • Beyoncé's mom, Tina Knowles-Lawson, told the Houston TV station KTRK about the album's meaning. "People make it all about the cheating and betrayal and, yes, that's a part of it because that is something you have to heal from," she explained. "If you really listen to the poetry, it is one of hope and redemption and hopefully that can be healing for people."

Knowles-Lawson added that the album has a universal appeal. "It could be about anyone's marriage," she stated. "I think that everybody at one time or another has been betrayed and lied to, and it's about the pain and it's about the healing process and it's about how do you get past that and move on."
  • The standalone video features footage from Beyoncé's home movies, including her and Jay Z's wedding day, a pregnant Bey, and scenes with daughter Blue Ivy. There are also cameos from Zendaya, Hunger Games actress Amandla Stenberg, and singing sisters Chloe x Halle.
