Songfacts®:

  • The recording of this track was an emotional experience for frontman Chris Robertson. He stated: "There's just something about that song. I remember being in the studio and I was singing it and trying to keep back from crying the whole time, thinking about my grandpa and just being away from my kid and wife and stuff and I got to the last chorus and just had to stop."
  • The ballad was co-written by former Shinedown guitarist Jasin Todd.
  • The song's music video was directed by the band's fellow Kentuckian Blake Judd (Shooter Jennings, Blackberry Smoke). Country singer Billy Ray Cyrus - father of Miley Cyrus - stars in the clip as the drifter title character, The Rambler.
