Songfacts®:

  • Bring Me the Horizon started off as a deathcore band, but then gradually moved away from their early heavy material by incorporating electronica and pop elements into their music. Amo represents the group's biggest sonic shift yet towards a more commercial sound. This track finds Oli Sykes addressing those early fans who've complained about the band's more pop-oriented songs.

    So I keep picking petals
I'm afraid you don't love me anymore
'Cause a kid on the 'gram in a Black Dahlia tank
    Says it ain't heavy metal

Sykes is referencing the game where picking off the last petal supposedly represents the truth between whether the object of a person's affection loves them or not.
  • Keyboardist Jordan Fish noted to Kerrang: "The title is completely ironic – a nod to how we're completely not heavy metal. There's a little five-second clip at the end of the track that's the heaviest we've sounded in years."
  • The song features American beatboxer and rapper Rahzel, who was formerly a member of The Roots.
Jordan Fish told Kerrang: "We had this demo for ages, and the beat was so crazy and heavy it sounded like a beatboxer. I was like, 'If we got an actual beatboxer on it, that'd be sick.' Back when the internet first became big, there was this viral video on Limewire of him beatboxing, so we got in touch and he was up for it."
