Songfacts®:

  • This electronic stomper finds a flirty Britney Spears getting a little clumsy in the bedroom. However, rather than being awkward and ungainly, Britney is repurposing the derogatory adjective to describe her sheer enjoyment of the sex she's having with her man.
  • The song was written by British R&B singer-songwriter Talay Riley, whose other credits include tracks by Nick Jonas ("Levels"), Jessie J ("Who's Laughing Now") and Chris Brown ("Zero"). It was co-produced by Warren "Oak" Felder (of the production duo Pop & Oak) and Alex Nice.
  • At the end of the hook, Britney exclaims "Oops!" in a nod to her iconic 2001 single "Oops... I Did It Again."
  • Other artists that have recorded songs with "Clumsy" as the title include Our Lady Peace and Fergie.
