Songfacts®:

  • When Brian "Danger Mouse" Burton teamed up with CeeLo Green to form Gnarls Barkley, the pair came up with "Crazy" - one of the biggest hits of 2006. In 2009 he formed another duo - Broken Bells - this time with The Shins lead singer James Mercer.

Mercer explained the song's meaning to Uncut magazine: "We both have careers that happen to be poised on this downward slope where music fits into pop culture," he said. "It used to be such a big deal, but the ones that are hugely successful now are just sort of... silly. Not that we're cynical about it."
