Songfacts®:

  • This downtempo number may sound like a song for the end of a love affair, and it is, but not of the boy-leaves-girl kind.

Camel was formed in 1971 and comprised multi-instrumentalist Andrew Latimer on lead guitar; Andy Ward on drums, Doug Ferguson on bass, and keyboard player Peter Bardens. The band enjoyed considerable commercial success, although they had all served apprenticeships elsewhere.

In 1978, Bardens left the band in what been described as an acrimonious but unavoidable split, something that is not exactly uncommon in musical circles. He went straight into the studio with Van Morrison. Latimer wrote this for Bardens, apparently to show there was no hard feelings. Peter Bardens died from lung cancer at Malibu, California in January 2002 aged just 56. >>>
