Songfacts®:

  • In 2005, Aguilera married the record executive Jordan Bratman. She wrote the lyric to "Ain't No Other Man" as a joyful expression of how he's the only one for her. Unfortunately, it didn't work out: They split up in 2010.
  • DJ Premier produced this track. He's a hip-hop producer who was a member of the group Gang Starr and worked with Jay-Z, KRS-One, Mos Def and many others. He said of this song: "The song is real, real fast, which is definitely different for me, 'cause I don't do real fast tempo. This thing is like 130 beats per minute, but it still sounds like hip-hop Christina."
  • "Ain't No Other Man" was the first single from Christina Aguilera's 2006 album Back to Basics, arriving four years after her previous album, the attention-grabbing Stripped. On Stripped she was breaking away from her Disney image and assuming control of her career; she did so by exposing herself physically (the video for "Dirrty") and emotionally (the song "Beautiful"). She was indeed liberated, but it took a lot out of her. "Ain't No Other Man" provides a joyful introduction to Back to Basics, but the second single was the highly emotional "Hurt." The album was very well-received, going to #1 in many countries.
  • The music video is set in the 1920s with Aguilera in character as Baby Jane. It helped create a classy, retro look for Aguilera, who was known for her very revealing outfits.
  • The song samples a 1968 Latin soul tune called "Hippy Skippy Moon Strut" (aka "I'll Be a Lucky Man") by Dave Cortez and the Moon People, and "The Cissy's Thang" by Soul Seven.
  • "Ain't No Other Man" earned Aguilera a Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. It was her fourth Grammy; her first came in 2000 when she won Best New Artist.
  • Aguilera said of this song at the MTV Movie Awards: "I wanted to make it light and easy for people to dance to and sing along to, so the whole song is based on feel-good elements of soul and blues and jazz. Lyrically, I just got married, so it's about someone in particular, but it's all about feeling good and not taking anything too seriously."
  • The Back to Basics album features 1920s, '30s and '40s-style jazz and blues with a modern twist. Aguilera described it to The Daily Telegraph May 7, 2010 as, "a retro exploring of my inspirations musically to begin with when I was six years old with the soul and the blues and the jazz artists and exploring what that was visually in the 1920s and '30s and '40s."

She added it was about "paying homage to the people that inspired me," a process "that almost forced me to revisit times in my childhood that I probably didn't want to."
  • When Christina first heard the instrumental to this song, created by DJ Premier, she decided it should be her first single. No words or melody had been created, but solely from the beat she knew it was the one.
  • In addition to Aguilera and DJ Premier, writing credits on this one go to Kara DioGuardi, Charles Roane and Harold Beatty. DioGuardi became a judge on American Idol in 2008.
