Songfacts®:

  • Chris Daughtry penned this with the San Francisco songwriter and producer busbee, whose other credits include Timbaland featuring Katy Perry's "If We Ever Meet Again," Rascal Flatts' "Summer Nights" and Kelly Clarkson's "Dark Side." The pair also penned together the Break The Spell tracks, "Gone Too Soon" and "Losing My Mind."
  • Daughtry explained the song's meaning to The Hollywood Reporter: "Lyrically, this song is kind of like a letter to my kids, all of them," he said. "No matter where you are, I'm always going to be Dad. I'm always going to fight for you."

  • Paul from New Haven CtI have always been a fan of Daughtry. This song relates to me because I have a very special friend (who is more like a brother) he picks me up when I feel down. He'll fight for me when the road gets rough. He will lift any burden. And when I listen to this song, it's like he is speaking to me.
