Songfacts®:

  • Dean Lewis conceived this song during a ride in a London Uber back in 2017. He'd just had an argument with a girl, and the chorus line, "Is it too late to turn around, I'm already halfway out of town," popped into his head. Lewis started working on "7 Minutes" as soon as he got home.
  • The song was recorded at The Barn Studio in North London with British producers Edd Holloway and Nick Atkinson, who also worked on Lewis' breakthrough single "Be Alright."
  • According to the press release, "7 Minutes" is "about meeting someone, making memories and then feeling regret."
  • Snow Patrol's 2006 hit tune "Chasing Cars" is referenced in this song.
