  • Deftones' vocalist/lyricist Chino Moreno is generally pretty shifty about explaining the meaning of his songs, but he was pretty clear about "Infinite Source."

    In an NPR interview, he said, "The lyric content sort of is like a reflection of the past and what we've done, and I think it's the only song that's really kind of done that. And the lyrics are sort of a nod to all the times and the years we spent doing this and our love for it."
  • Fans have wondered if the song was meant to be Deftones' (or at least Moreno's) final goodbye, and with good reason when you look at lyrics like:

    Last time adorning the stage
    With love, we've chased and found
    The last ride we're gonna take
    Our final wave and bow


    Thing is, when Moreno wrote "Infinite Source," he couldn't have known how successful Private Music, their 10th studio album, was going to be. It was Deftones' first album in five years and the music industry had changed a lot, yet Private Music was a massive success commercially and critically. It hit #5 on the charts and earned them Artist of the Year credentials from Revolver. So whether or not it would actually prove to be the band's real goodbye would have to wait, if that's even what he actually meant with the song (the lyrics certainly suggest so).
  • According to an interview with Kerrang, this song was composed by guitarist Stephen Carpenter and drummer Abe Cunningham in about 20 minutes of jamming.
  • "Infinite Source" was the third single released off Private Music. The first two ("My Mind Is A Mountain" and "Milk Of The Madonna") were released shortly before Private Music to build anticipation. "Infinite Source" was the next one.
  • Deftones debuted the song live at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Canada, on August 22, 2025.
  • Deftones released two videos for "Infinite Source," including an exclusive version that initially went out to fans subscribed to the band's mailing list. It went out on December 19, 2025, and featured a live Deftones performance. In the description, the band wrote, "thank you for an incredible year. see you in '26." Eventually fans started sharing it around online so Deftones made it public. Aaron Hymes directed both the official and the private videos.
